Beryl Frances (Shultz) Johnson, 90, of Rockford, IL, slipped into eternity at 12:27 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center. Born May 2, 1932, in Yale, IA, daughter of Claude L. and Ruth (Goodwin) Shultz. She lived 80 years in Rockford, coming from Jefferson, IA. Graduated in 1950 from East High School. Married Roger Johnson on March 8, 1952, after they met at Rockford Clutch where both worked. Roger died on November 23, 2013. Member of Central Christian Church for more than 75 years. Beryl was a child-care giver for many years, caring for countless children while their parents worked. She liked to do jigsaw puzzles and enjoyed camping, cooking, board games and spending time with her family. Her Christmas village was a sight to behold and the angel at the top of the Christmas tree was 70 years old. Survived by her son, William (Angela) Johnson of Streator; daughter, Nancy (Andrew) Mercaitis of Machesney Park; seven grandchildren, Brittnie (Brandon Eller) Johnson-Brugman, Connor Johnson, Tiffany Mercaitis, Parker Johnson, Hunter (Nicole) Johnson, Rylee Mercaitis, and Jenna Mercaitis; six great-grandchildren, Kayleigh Brugman, Sophieah Brugman, Liam Johnson, Alexander Eller, Emma Eller, and Willow Mercaitis-Johns; brothers, David of Rockford, and Thomas of Maumelle, Arkansas; brothers-in-law, Robert Anderson and Walter Johnson Jr., both of Rockford; also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, great-grand-nieces and great-grand-nephews. Predeceased by parents; husband; son, Kenneth Johnson; sister, Harriett Anderson; and brother, James Shultz.
Service at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at Central Christian Church, 6595 Guilford Road, Rockford, with visitation from 10 a.m. to service time in the church. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
