Jerry D. Merwin, 79, of Loves Park, passed away September 30, 2022, at home after a short illness. Born April 6, 1943, in Elgin, son of Douglas F. And Emma M. (Morelock) Merwin. Married Suzanne J. Suoja on February 8, 1991, in Las Vegas. Employed by All Rental Garment Company for 36 years. Veteran of the U.S. Army. Member of Top “O” State snowmobile club. Avid NASCAR fan and attended many local racetracks. He enjoyed fishing and golf. Survivors include one son, Jeff (Sheri) Merwin of Rockton; one daughter, Deanna (Taylor) Reynolds of Loves Park; 12 grandchildren, Jeffrey Sievers of Loves Park, Michael (Donna Johnston) Merwin of Madison, WI, Tiffani (Joe) Vacarello of Charleston, SC, Jon Merwin of Belvidere, Stephanie Lightner of Belvidere, Miriah Mente of Loves Park, Danny Mente of Loves Park, Elizabeth (Austin) Hodyniak of Loves Park, Eddie (Lisa Vega) Reynolds of Rockford, Jasmine, Hanna and Aaron; 9 great-grandchildren, Hannah Lightner, Morgan Pearson, Erveaya Hohol, Ellie Reynolds, Evie Reynolds, Lily Hodyniak, Lucy Hodyniak, Brailie, and Justin; one brother, Denny (Linda) Merwin of Loves Park; several nieces and nephews; loving grand dog and companion, Ellie. Predeceased by his parents; wife, Suzanne; and two sons, Tim “Hollywood” Merwin and Don Gibson. Special thanks to his 1st wife, Mary Jane Merwin, for her loving care at the end of his life and also Northern Illinois Hospice.
Services at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 6, 2022, in Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park, with a visitation from 9 a.m. to service time. Entombment in Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial to be established.
