Mabel Rose Kaney
Mabel Rose (Oblinger) Kaney, 99, of Chicago, IL, passed away Sunday, August 28, 2022, in her home. Born October 1, 1922, in Saint Ignatius, MT, the daughter of Vern H. and Irene (Michaud) Oblinger. Graduated from Missoula County High School in Montana and graduated from Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Spokane, WA, in Class of 1944, she then served our country as a Registered Nurse in the Army Nurse Corps during World War II and was stationed at Baxter General Hospital in Spokane, WA. It is there that 2nd Lieutenant Oblinger met 2nd Lieutenant Earl L. Kaney. They were married on October 21, 1945, in the Chapel at Baxter General. After they both left the Army, they moved back to Illinois and began raising a family. Mabel was involved with St. Bridget Catholic Church in Loves Park, IL, for many, many years. She gave her time and talent to several different things at St. Bridget Church and School. She was an avid reader, and in her day, she could do a crossword puzzle with a pen. She loved her family and was always there when she was needed. She was a big fan of the Chicago Cubs and celebrated with us when they won the World Series in 2016. Survivors include children, Jim (Lanor) Kaney, Joe (Bernadette) Kaney, Jeanne (Carlos) Sierra, and John (Mary) Kaney; brother, Louis (Joanne) Oblinger; and she left behind many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, who will all miss her terribly. Predeceased by her husband, Earl Kaney; and brothers, Fr. Joseph Oblinger and Lawrence (Buster) Oblinger. The Kaney family would like to thank her son, John, his wife, Mary, and Mabel’s granddaughter, Tina, for all their help and support in taking care of her for a very long time. Words can’t express how thankful we are to these 3 angels. They would also like to thank Journey Care and Custom Home Care in Chicago for their help and support, especially these last several months.
