Margaret Malachowski

Margaret (Garcia) Malachowski, 84, of Machesney Park, IL, passed away Monday, December 12, 2022, at Canterfield of Fort Myers, Estero, FL. Born October 4, 1938, in Indio, CA, the daughter of Jose and Consuelo (Saldana) Garcia. Graduated from Mar Vista High School in 1956 as class Valedictorian then returning at 40 to attend Rockford College earning a bachelor’s degree in business. Married Robert A. “Bob” Malachowski on February 29, 1964, in Las Vegas, NV. Retired from OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. Owners of Subs-N-More Restaurant, Rockford, IL, for 25 years. Margaret was very involved with supporting the ARC of Winnebago/Boone Counties, CASA of Winnebago County, Salvation Army passing out meals and toys at Christmas and the Special Olympics through her daughter, Alexis. Member of St. Bridget Catholic Church where she enthusiastically volunteered her time including taking Communion to the Homebound. She and Alexis visited the Holy Land through a St. Bridget's group with the priests. She was named Catholic Woman of the Year by the Rockford Deanery Council of Catholic Women 2012, representing St. Bridget Parish. Margaret was also a 44-year friend of Bill W. and enjoyed spending time with her daughter, Alexis, and all of her grandchildren. Survivors include her sons, Chris (Tammy), Miles (Wendy), and Jose (Renee) Malachowski; daughter, Alexis Malachowski; grandchildren, Joshua, Jacob, Auria, Brennan, Jesse, Jordyn, Caleb, and Lauren. Predeceased by her parents; husband; and stepson, Robert J. Malachowski, III.

Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at St. Bridget Catholic Church, 600 Clifford Ave., Loves Park, IL, with visitation from 12:30 p.m. to service time. Processional will follow mass with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Luncheon will be served at St. Bridget Church Monsignor Mitchell Hall across from the church following the committal service. The Funeral Mass will be live streamed on St. Bridget Church's YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/@StBridgetChurch. Services will be recorded and posted on the same YouTube channel.
