Obituary for Michael "Mike" Meier

Michael “Mike” Donald Meier

Michael “Mike” Donald Meier, 71, of Machesney Park, IL, passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center, with his wife and daughter at his side. Born April 8, 1951, in Rockford, IL, the son of Hughling and Betty (Brown) Meier. He married Melody Lee on June 26, 1976. He graduated from Harlem High School, Rock Valley College, and attended Northern Illinois University. Mike was the owner and operator of Northern Illinois Striping Company, a pavement striping business, for many years. He formerly completed his apprenticeship as a Journeyman Carpenter and later taught in the apprenticeship program. He also worked as an industrial and commercial property manager. Mike was currently serving as the Harlem Township Highway Commissioner and was honored to serve his community. Previously, he was also a Winnebago County Republican Precinct Committee man. Mike was well known for his dad jokes, infectious laugh, and kind personality. Not surprisingly, Mike was an organ donor and has continued to give to others. He was truly a friend to all that knew him, and he never met a stranger. He was honored to donate his business services to local churches and veteran organizations. Mike loved football, good music, and comedy. He will be remembered as a beloved husband, father, and papa to his girls. His granddaughter, Monroe, called him “My best friend.” Survivors include his wife, Melody; daughter, Molly Meier; granddaughter, Monroe Meier; brother, Mark Meier; 2 sisters-in-law; 1 brother-in-law; many loving nieces and nephews who adored their uncle Mike and his jokes; several very special neighbors, close friends, and coworkers in the pavement business. Predeceased by his parents; and brother, Timothy “Timmy” Meier. Special thanks to the OSF Critical Care Team, especially Nurse Cooper, Dr. Hanif, and Dr. Jacob.

Service at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 17, 2022, at Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park, IL. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, November 16, 2022, in the funeral home. Memorial to be determined at a later date.
