Pamela “Pam” J. Munger

Pamela “Pam” J. Munger, 69, of Rockford, IL, passed away peacefully Thursday, September 15, 2022, in Chicago, IL, due to complications from myelofibrosis. Born May 23, 1953, in Woodstock, IL, the daughter of Kenneth B. and Cora Olivene (Paxson) Kerns. Graduated from Woodstock High School, Class of 1971. Her career was devoted to public service whether it was in retail/hospital security, law enforcement, emergency medical services, or volunteer fire. She attended police academy at University of Illinois Champaign and then worked as a corrections officer at the Boone County Correctional Facility in Belvidere, IL. Later Pam worked parttime as a patrol officer for Pecatonica Police Department. She went on to become on emergency medical technician working at Lowes Distribution Center and volunteering her time as a firefighter/EMT with Northwest Fire Department. Pam was an active member of the Viscounts Drum and Bugle Corps where she made many lifelong friendships. She was an avid bird watcher and had a deep love and appreciation for the falcons that would nest on top of the Rockford Register Star building. Pam was involved in fledge watch with the falcons and the Audubon Society. She had an exceptional talent of photographing wildlife and had a large catalog of photos. You rarely ever saw her without a camera in her hands. She was at her most peace while outdoors watching the birds. Pam was passionate about animals and adored her two chihuahuas, Mojo and Taco, who passed before her. Survivors include her daughter, Tanya (Marc) Munger-Whitman of Rockford; grandsons, Dan Whitman, and Mike Whitman, both of Boulder, CO; granddaughters, Macey (Sean) Montavon-Lyons of Nashville, TN, Abigayle (Payton) Whitman and Eloise Whitman, both of Rockford, IL. Predeceased by her parents. Special thank you to the staff at UW Swedes, UW Swedes Cath-lab team and pulmonology, and Loyola Medical Center for their superb care and compassion. Thank you to Dr. Harper at Loyola Medical Center for providing exceptional care at the end of her life but also caring for the family during an extremely difficult time. Thank you to all the residents and staff at the Luther Center in Rockford, you were all her family.

Memorial visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, November 12, 2022, in Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park, IL. Cremation rites are accorded.
