Shirley Mae Minnick, 90, of Rockford, IL, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Independence Village. Born May 15, 1933, in Albany, WI, the daughter of Roxell and Evelyn (Brien) Drought. She lived most of her life in the Rockford area. Married Robert Charles Minnick, on January 7, 1956. Retired from Amerock. Member of St. Bridget Catholic Church. Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family and was the best mom, grandma and (GG) great-grandma there ever was. She was a dear friend to many and loved to spend time with them. Shirley loved to play cards. She had wonderful memories of her years on Lake Delavan and Lake Wisconsin, spending time with family and friends. Feeding everyone, always being the best hostess, and of course water skiing. There was nothing she enjoyed better than a good game of cribbage, win or lose. Survivors include her son, David (Vicki) Minnick of Stillman Valley, IL; daughter, Carol (Mark) Hewitt of Roscoe, IL; grandchildren, Nicholas (Margaret) Hewitt of Lavalle, WI, Danielle (Matthew) Honea of Winnebago, IL, Kelli (Bradley) Benner of Mahomet, IL, and Samantha (Russell) Dennison of Rutland, WI; great-grandchildren, Rachel, Whitney, Blake, Wyatt, Beau, Cooper, Landon, Lilly, Daisy, Aiden, Ellie and Eve. Predeceased by her husband, Robert Minnick; parents; great-granddaughter, Marian Rose Hewitt; brothers, Marvin Drought, and Gale Drought. Shirley will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Private family services will be held with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park, IL. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
