Shirley Yvonne Thompson
Shirley Yvonne Thompson, 97, of Rockford, IL, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2023, at River Bluff Nursing Home. Born August 6, 1925, in Freeport, IL, the daughter of Ralph Richard and Mildred Clarice (Reid) Peters. Married Arthur Leonard Thompson, on March 18, 1943, in Rock Island, IL. Active member of Evans United Methodist Church where she would sing in the church choir. As an avid Cubs fan, Shirley was glad to see them win the world series. Her favorite color was yellow. Shirley enjoyed playing bingo, watching soap operas, especially General Hospital. Survivors include her sons, Marshall Thompson, and Bradley Thompson; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Barbara Peters; first cousin, Delores Fizzy; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Predeceased by her parents; husband; son, Larry Thompson; siblings, Dick, Doris, and Beverly.
Service at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 2, 2023, at Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park, IL, with visitation from 10 a.m. to service time. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
