Obituary for William "Bill" Hoar

William “Bill” R. Hoar

Bill Hoar, 71, of Rockford, IL, passed away Jan. 25, 2023, in his home, surrounded by his loving wife, Roberta, family, and dear friends. Born April 17, 1951, in Rockford, the son of Robert and Mary (Martin) Hoar. Graduated from Guilford High School in 1969. After more than 30 years with the love of his life and soulmate, Roberta Dailey, they eloped on Feb. 20, 2003, to Las Vegas, NV. They sailed to the Tahitian Islands for their honeymoon. Employed by the Rockford Park District for 31 years, retiring in 2008. He had the opportunity to participate with “Kids Around the World”, working on the first five playgrounds. He was an avid reader, history and politics buff, sports fan, enjoyed golfing with his friends, an avid viewer of “Morning Joe”, and was proud of his home. He was an accomplished carpenter. Member of the Lombardi Club. Bill and Roberta loved traveling and cruising to five different continents. They also loved their annual trips to Disney World. Bill was the very definition of smart, kind, fun-loving, and had a flair for adventure. He very much enjoyed a good conversation on any subject typically laced with his good sense of humor. Bill loved ending the day with his wife Roberta poolside, with a Martini (2-olives) and planning their next vacation. Survivors include his wife, Roberta; brother, Steven Hoar; sister-in-law, Kathy (Mike) Hoss; nephews, Christopher (Jill) Hoss, and Jason (Katie) Hoss; great-niece and -nephew, Lily and Beckett Hoss; cousins, Brad Hoar, Christy Cassioppi, and Jimmy Hoover; godson, Kyle Longardner; special friends, John and Tina Bacon and family, Christine Haeggquist, Dave Pearson, John and Halana DeBo, and Beverly Sheehan; and so many numerous wonderful friends. Special thanks to Gary and Manie for all their love and support. Hats off to our fabulous team of dedicated health providers: Dr. Steve Howard - UW Madison; Dr. Ben Durkee - Radiation-Oncology at Swedish American; OSF Therapists: Nate, Meg, Sharon, and Jen; OSF Home Care: Amy, Val, Lisa, and Cathy.
